Gazelle Edge - A Review of the Tony Little Gazelle Edge Trainer

!±8± Gazelle Edge - A Review of the Tony Little Gazelle Edge Trainer

The Gazelle Edge became famous when Tony Little marketed it on infomercials several years ago. The image of the big muscular gentleman working out so effortlessly on the gazelle exercise machine made everyone want to own one for their own home. The gazelle exercise equipment promised many benefits including burn calories, tone your muscles and improve your cardiovascular endurance. Even with its small footprint, the Gazelle Edge promised to simultaneously workout your upper and lower body. Was all this information just hype to get you to purchase the product or does the product lives up to the hype? Let's find out.

Setting It Up

When you purchase the Gazelle Edge, it will be shipped to you in a single box. Even though the product weighs 42 pounds, it will be shipped to you in a box weighing 46 pounds. For that reason you might want to have someone help you carry the box inside and up/down any stairs. When you open the box you find that the product comes almost pre-assembled. For shipping the company has broken the product down into two pieces - the left side and the right side. To install the product you have to connect the two pieces and screw in two screws on the front, back and on the exercise arms. The only tool you will need for installation is a Phillips head screwdriver. It will take you about 30 minutes to install the product and get it ready for use.

Starting Workout

It is recommended that you exercise either in your socks or with your shoes on. You may think that your foot will slide off of the machine if you exercise in your socks but this shouldn't be a concern. The foot platforms have a non-skid surface. Your foot will not slide even if you try to make it slide. The non-skid surface shows the company has taken safety into consideration in designing the product.

To start your workout, you grab hold of the metal tube that runs along the front of the gazelle exercise equipment. This tube will give you support and stability while you step onto the foot platforms. It is important to grasp the tube with a good, solid hold because you are stepping onto foot platforms that move. Once you have stepped onto the machine, you can grab the arm handles and start exercising.

To dismount the gazelle edge trainer, you grab the metal tube on the front of the product and step off of the foot platforms.

Full Range of Motion

The Gazelle Edge is a perfect piece of equipment for anyone looking to get in shape or anyone that is looking to reduce the impact they would get from a treadmill or anyone recovering from an injury. The exercise machine has a dual-action split suspension. In common man terms this means that you can move your feet as far as you want and the left and right foot do not have to be moved the same distance. The benefit is that you can choose to either slowly walk or run briskly when exercising on this machine. The choice is yours.

Low Impact

The biggest rub against treadmills is the impact it causes to your feet, your knees and your hips. Every time you take a step when running, it jars your body which can cause injury. The Gazelle Edge does not have this impact so it does not damage your body like a treadmill might. Since you are not stepping while exercising, the gazelle edge has very low impact on your body.

Total Body Workout

The design of the Gazelle Edge allows you to workout both your upper and lower body at the same time. You move your arms with the arm handles. This motion works both your biceps and your triceps. The longer you exercise; you will find that your muscles are being toned.

In addition you work out your legs while you either walk or run on the gazelle exercise machine. You can change the angle of your body while exercise to get a better workout for your calf or thigh muscles. It goes without saying; the exercising will improve you buttocks which is a positive.

The most important part of the workout is the improvement to your cardiovascular system. As we age we tend to get slower and find that some tasks become more difficult to complete. If you keep a strong cardiovascular system throughout your life, you will be able to do things much easier. Some studies have shown a solid cardiovascular system can increase your life span.

Since you are exercising your total body, you will burn calories will working out. This can help to reduce your weight. Losing weight and getting fit are two great things to have.

Computer Display

If you want to know the impact of your workout, the Gazelle Edge includes a computer display that is mounted in the middle of the tube running in front of the machine. The display will show you your speed, distance, time and approximate number of calories that you have burned. You can click to any one of these to see the current value. Or you can just let the display rotate around each of the items while you are exercising.

Solid Construction

Even though the machine is made in China, the manufacturer does not skimp on quality in the construction. The machine is made of steel tubes that are about 2 inches in diameter. The arm handles are wrapped in high-density foam which makes it very comfortable to grab while working out. The manufacturer rates the machine for up to 250 pounds of support. So unless you are extremely overweight or a heavy weight fighter, you don't have to worry about the stability of the machine.

Easy Storage

This is a big selling point for the Gazelle Edge. If you want to store the gazelle exercise machine, the process is a simple as 1-2-3. First you snap the two foot platforms onto the arm handles. Second you slide the frame together to collapse it. Third you put the folded exercise machine underneath your bed or in a closet. The machine only weighs about 40 pounds so it can be easily stored by almost anyone.

Conclusion

The Gazelle Edge is a very inexpensive piece of exercise equipment that is perfect for a home gym. The gazelle edge trainer does workout your entire body. The only negative is that there is no way to set a resistance level.
